CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies is now available for Sony Xperia ZL phone, the first build from CM team for the Sony Xperia ZL smartphones. The latest bulid is based on Android 4.2.2 jelly bean ROM and worked on all rooted Sony Xperia ZL smartphones. So if you wan to update your Sony Xperia ZL with this new CM 10.1 rom, than you need a rooted device with custom Recovery installed. Without these requirements you cannot install the custom ROM. So today in this post we will help you to update your Sony Xperia ZL with the CM 10.1 Android 4.2.2 Custom Rom, this update is only for the Sony Xperia ZL rooted users, don’t try this update on your other device.
Before following this guide, don’t forget to take the full backup of your Sony Xperia ZL. Here is the list of some good android application which allows you to take the full backup of your device. Once the backup is complete, tan follow this guide to update your device.

Important things to remember– Make sure your device have at least 80% battery power, otherwise your device may see a hard brick if device turn off during installation. Your device is rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery Installed, without rooting you can’t update your device with this update.
How to Update Sony Xperia ZL with CM 10.1 Android 4.2.2
Hope you read all the above instruction carefully, so lets start the update process on your device. Note this is a custom firmware and neither Google nor Sony released it. So try it at your own risk. First thing you have to do is download the custom firmware and GAPPS on your desktop.
- CM10.1 ROM 4.2.2 Jelly Bean ROM For Xperia ZL [Filename: cm-10.1-20130415-NIGHTLY-odin.zip]
- Google Apps [Filename: gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip]
After download the both the files on your Desktop, Connect your phone to PC using USB cable. And copy the files on your device SD card (Don’t extract the files). Once the files are copied on your device, unplug it from the computer and turn off the device.
Now you have to Boot into recovery mode. To do so, reboot phone and press Volume Up button few times while booting. [use volume buttons to scroll and Power button to select]. Or you can follow this guide to enter into recovery mode.
Now you are in the Recovery mode, from here select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes and wait for few seconds to perform this action, After that come back to recovery menu and select wipe cache partition and after wiping process done, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to perform Dalvik cache wiping. Now it is time to flash the custom ROM on your device.
From the recovery menu Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now find the above download CM 10.1 file on your screen and flash it. Now the ROM installation is started on your device, once it is completed repeat the process again but this time choose the Google Apps(Gapps) File on the screen and install it.
Once installation is completed on your device, go back to the recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot the phone. The reboot process will take some time, so be patient! Now the CM 10.1 Android 4.2.2 Custom Rom is installed on your Sony Xperia ZL.
