Xiaomi is officially moving past the “buggy” reputation of early HyperOS builds. With the release of HyperOS 3.1 (Android 16) this April, the camera experience has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. If you’ve felt that your Xiaomi 14 or 15 series was missing that “instant” shutter feel of an iPhone or S26 Ultra, this is the update you’ve been waiting for.

What’s New? 3 Major Camera Upgrades
1. Zero-Lag Shutter (AI Motion Prediction)
The biggest complaint with Xiaomi cameras has been shutter lag. In 3.1, Xiaomi has rewritten the core “Liquid Engine” code. The camera now uses the NPU to predict motion before you even press the button.
-
The Result: Near-instant capture, even when shooting moving pets or kids.
-
Pro Tip: In the settings, ensure “Prioritize Fast Shooting” is toggled on to see the full effect of the new code.
2. Super Island Integration
Xiaomi’s “Super Island” (their take on the Dynamic Island) is now deeply integrated with the camera.
-
While recording video, you can exit to your home screen, and the Island will show a Live Progress Bar, recording time, and an instant “Stop” button. No more fumbling with the notification shade to end a clip.
3. Leica Master Styles 2.0
For the flagship users (Xiaomi 15/17), the Leica partnership gets a “Vivid 2.0” update.
-
Better Indian Skin Tones: The previous yellow/warm tint in harsh Indian sunlight has been tuned for a more natural, balanced look.
-
Post-Capture Depth: You can now adjust the f-stop (blur intensity) in the Gallery app with significantly better edge detection for hair and glasses.
How to Install HyperOS 3.1 Camera Now
If you haven’t received the OTA (Over-The-Air) update in India yet, you can sideload the Camera v6.4.x APK.
Warning: HyperOS 3.1 uses a completely new code architecture. Installing this APK on HyperOS 2.0 or older devices will cause a crash. Only install if you are already on an Android 16-based build.
